The northwest Valley includes some of the country's largest active-adult communities. In homes there, the top requests are walk-in showers, grab bars, wider doorways, low-maintenance flooring and reliable AC. Surprise also has many younger families in newer subdivisions.
Which office issues your permit
Homes inside the City of Surprise get permits from Surprise. Sun City and Sun City West are unincorporated, so permits there come from Maricopa County Planning & Development, and the community's own association rules also apply. Confirm the jurisdiction from your property tax record before you apply.
